This book is a Lifetime movie. My husband asked me what I was reading and while I was detailing the story my husband stated, “Did you just watched this on Lifetime.”. My reply, “Yes.”
The Breakdown was well written and should be a Lifetime movie. For the first 79% of the book the actions of Cass seemed ridiculous. There was a lot of repetitive and redundant actions by Cass. I found the repetitions to be a little draining. I became bored and I was thinking about putting this book down and finishing it later. I kept on.
I felt bad for Matthew for the first two chapters. The good looking, attentive, patient man. How much more could he take? Being an avid Lifetime watcher, after a couple more chapters the writing was on the wall. I could figure out most of the conclusion.
The last 20% of the book had me engaged, it was much easier to read. The pages-turned quickly then. I was intrigued and couldn’t wait to find out what would happen next. It’s the part of the movie where you think “Get them”.
The author was able to correlate everything that happened in the first 80% of the book seamlessly in the last 20%. I liked that I could get a full play by and play and really understand why Cass thought the things she did, or why certain things occurred.
There is a twist at the end that I didn’t see coming, this was delightful. That delightfulness turned into a lackluster ending. I was left with a few unanswered questions. After being so disengaged for most of the book, then getting intrigued and then boom the book ended. I felt unfulfilled.
Conclusion: It was an ok read.
