Q&A

First I wanted to thank Michelle for taking time to answer these questions. 

S: The setting of Two Thousand Lines takes place in Louisiana. Did you find writing the setting easier since you call Louisiana home?

M: I absolutely find that writing about Louisiana is easy for me. I love living here! The landscape is sub-tropical, lush, and gorgeous. Louisiana is very diverse and the people are incredible.

S: What did you edit out of Two Thousand Lines and Why?

M: I cut two additional chapters out simple because they didn’t add much to the overall storyline. I didn’t want to cut them out (as usual for writers) however in the end it really was the best decision.

S: Do you read your reviews? The good and bad? Do you find them beneficial?

M: Yes, I 100% read every review and am thankful for each one. My writing style is not for everyone, nor is my content, still I appreciate each person who takes the time to read and review.

S: How did you select the names of your characters?

M: Names are super important to me. My main characters names for my first ten novels are already picked (and of course on a spreadsheet lol) however for additional characters I choose in different ways. Some names I pick because they belong/belonged to special people in my life. I also run “have your name in my next novel” giveaways through my quarterly newsletter. I get great responses and it is fun. Other names are chosen, believe it or not, by me pulling up social media and the first name that pops up gets in. I warn people though, that they may very well end up as a dog.

S: What’s your favorite under appreciated novel?

M: I read many books with several book clubs I belong to so most of the books are already either mainstream or ended up becoming so. The underappreciated, of which I have several, are mainly local authors such as Elizabeth Collums’ Passengers; I was one of her ARC readers and loved it. Another is Karen Milioto’s Mustard Seeds and Water Lines, about her experience in the big flood of 2016.

S: What is the first book that made you cry?

M: I don’t remember the name and have tried to find this book through the years, with no luck. I was a preteen and it was on my aunt’s bookshelf. It was about a man who was in a car accident and ended up temporarily paralyzed. A woman who visited the hospital and sang to the patients fell in love with him. He couldn’t accept her love because he didn’t feel like he deserved it. I remember crying because her heartbreak was that she truly loved him for who he was, and his heartbreak was that he felt unworthy of her love because he was “broken’ and he thought she was so perfect. Wow, I almost teared up just writing about it.

 IF ANYONE knows what the title of this book is I’d love to know!!

Michelle Jester lives in Greenwell Springs, Louisiana with her husband, high school sweetheart and retired Master Sergeant. Together they have a son and daughter. She is a hopeless romantic and has been writing poems and stories for as long as she can remember.
One of her prize possessions is a bracelet with only a yellow, Rubber Duckie charm on it; which she wears every day to remind her to enjoy the fun and happy things of life!
