SYNOPSIS

A vendetta can change everything …

Bene Guzzi is walking a fine line. In his family, the mafia, and even with his own twin. Being a Guzzi principe means he doesn’t have time to be a screw up, so he needs to fix it and fast.

Vanna Falco is nothing that she seems. Her angel’s face hides a past filled with pain and her secrets might be enough to finally take the Guzzi family down for good. That is, if no one finds out the truth.

But everything gets trickier when people who shouldn’t be together, start to fall hard. And no one is more dangerous than a Guzzi in love.

The lies between them, though?
Well, they might ruin it all.

Note: Bene is a standalone within The Guzzi Legacy and can be read as such.

💻QUESTIONS & ANSWERS💻

First I want to thank you Bethany-Kris for taking the time to answer my questions. This is definitely one of my highlights this year.

You have written organized crime, romance,  suspense novels for years and you do it so well.  Do you read your book reviews, good and bad? How does the feedback affect your writing style?

BK: Thank you. I actually write in different genres as well but that’s been the majority of my work the past few years. Romantic suspense and some form of organized crime. I read reviews I am tagged in usually. So, yes, if you tag me and I see it among the many notifs I get across my socials, then chances are I have seen and read your review. I don’t go looking for reviews, though. Like I don’t crawl my Amazon and Goodreads pages for reviews.

I enjoy having interactions with my readers about my books more. I love having people tag me in tweets or posts as they’re reading, or sharing memes in my group about how it’s making them feel. I have the benefit of getting to do that for every book and that also feels like I’m getting access and feedback from my readers in those moments. Just in a different way than a written review.

I feel like after a book is finished it’s final proofing stage and ready for release there isn’t anything you can change about it. So the things that people wouldn’t like about a book … I can’t do anything about for the book they didn’t like. And I try not to let anyone’s opinion of my writing determine how I write the next book, as far as that goes. I’m always writing what I want to read. You know? So one day I’m writing about bad guys getting the girl and the next day I’m jotting down notes about dragons and mermaids. I write the book I want to read, and then I publish it hoping others want to read it, too.

How do you come up with the names for your characters?

BK: I just pour over baby name lists, most popular name lists, lists of names for specific years, like maybe 150 years ago in Italy, what were the top 100 boy names. And I might pick from the last ten or the first ten. Other characters come to me with a name. Often times, if I am writing within a family series and I’m writing the second generation, I reuse family names because it’s just easier … and I have written a lot of Italians, so reusing names in that way is a good thing in my case.

What did you edit out of Bene?

BK: Very little, if anything. I’m at a point in my plotting stage now where every scene of the book is plotted out beat for beat before I begin writing it. I don’t just write things and then cut them when I’m plotting with that kind of purpose. I want very little distractions in the plot when I actually begin writing so usually my plot documents are very intensive and extensive. There’s not much wiggle room for me to go off-topic and end up cutting stuff out.

What was the hardest scene to write in Bene?

BK: The sex scene in the restaurant – everything, the lead-up and after. It was all an interesting scene to just … balance. Sometimes I want to cross lines, sometimes I just want to toe them … and I still haven’t decided where I was going with that one. That’s just how it works occasionally.

What’s next after the Guzzi family?

BK: Well … LOL. Um, some different things. And also some familiar faces. All the duets are getting boxsets next year, as well as novellas to revisit some of our favorite characters. I am also opening a new fantasy world with The Hunted, a dark little mermaid retelling, heavy on the fantasy and romance. I hope to play around more in that world but I really want to see how my readers react to it before I start writing the first series in the world. I could have written it under a new pen name but I’m really still just doing what I have always done – writing what I wanted to read at any given moment.

Other stuff coming next year … some standalones, we’ll go back to Chicago for Cory Rossi. A fan favorite that has been asked for time and time again with Luca and Penny will release as well later in the year. I haven’t titled that one yet. Or … I have not announced it officially. Lots of good stuff.

When did you first realize you wanted to be an author?

BK: I always loved to read stories, so I think a part of me always wanted to tell them. I never seriously considered becoming an author as a career until I was 20/21 ish and I didn’t have the first clue where to begin.

What does Bethany-Kris love to do when not writing?

BK: Be with my boys. All my boys.

My favourite character that you have written is Cross. I love how he just says what is on his mind. Do you have a favourite character that you have written? If so, why?

BK: Cross is kind of perfect … he welcomed a whole new flood of readers for me which was so awesome. I have favorite characters – I regularly keep a top five of heroes and heroines. They change at any given time for different reasons. They’re all real in my mind – I can’t actually pick a favorite.

Any words of wisdom for aspiring authors?

BK: I mean … just keep writing. Because you can only be an author of something when you write it. So, write.

Share something your readers wouldn’t know about you.

BK: I pretty well know what the next 5 years look like as far as what I’ll be writing and the basics of the plots … but they’re not down on paper yet. It’s just all up in my head, haha.
